BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- The Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross has had a very busy 24 hours, as volunteers helped the victims of three fires.

It started Thursday, when a fire in Garland left a family of five homeless. Friday morning, three adults were hospitalized after a fire in Orrington. And then Friday afternoon, a two story apartment building in Old Town caught fire, leaving two college students homeless.

Executive Director Shannon Flavin Cox said, "This past year has seen more local disasters and more local disaster victims served by the Red Cross than ever before."

Cox points out that the chapter does not get money from the federal, state or county government, and donations are needed.
