AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Center for Disease Control says a young adult in Penobscot County is the second person to die in Maine from the H1N1 Influenza.
The CDC is not releasing the identity of the man to help protect the privacy of his family. Officials will say he was between the ages of 18 and 25, he died at home and was not attending a local college or university.
The victim did have what the CDC is calling "serious underlying medical conditions."
Dr. Dora Anne Mills, Director of the Maine CDC says, "While most people with H1N1 in Maine and the nation have had a relatively mild infection, this news demonstrates how severe influenza can be, especially in those with underlying conditions, pregnant women and children."
Upon learning of the death, the CDC brought in the Medical Examiner's office and an autopsy was performed. The tests conducted by the CDC's Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory confirmed the diagnosis of the pandemic strain of H1N1.
In August, a man in his 50's from York county, was the first Mainer to die from H1N1.
